Amalia Alzheimers Relief is a charity registered in England & Wales (No. 1216994), working to bring understanding, dignity and support to people affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Our focus is rural Pakistan, where this condition is still widely misunderstood — often dismissed as “old age”, mental illness, or something to feel ashamed of. We want to change that, gently and steadily, one family at a time.
Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia don’t ask where you live, what language you speak, or whether you can read. But in rural Pakistan, the response to it is shaped by all three.
Health information rarely reaches these communities in a form people can understand. Stigma keeps many families silent, fearful of being judged. And with limited literacy, even the information that does arrive often can’t be read at all.
The result is that people living with dementia are frequently hidden away, and the people caring for them — almost always unpaid, and almost always women — carry the weight completely alone.
We started Amalia Alzheimers Relief because we believe no family should have to face this without information, without support, and without someone to talk to.
To raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and dementia in rural Pakistan, provide accessible education that overcomes barriers of stigma and illiteracy, and offer real, practical relief to the families and carers who need it most.
Our work is centred on rural communities across Pakistan, where access to formal healthcare, mental health support, and even basic information about conditions like dementia can be extremely limited.
These are places where a diagnosis is rare — not because dementia doesn’t exist there, but because it so often goes unrecognised, unspoken, and unsupported.
We work with communities directly, using simple, respectful and locally appropriate ways of sharing information, because real change starts with being understood, not just being informed.
Amalia Alzheimers Relief is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales under charity number 1216994. We are committed to using every resource responsibly, and to treating every family we work with, with dignity and respect.
